What a Beaver Can Teach You About Online Business
Guest post by Ryan Ambrose
Beavers are fun. They’re cute, furry buck-toothed critters with a respectable work ethic. And for a creature with a rodent-sized brain, it’s amazing to realize that the little builders construct dams across streams and rivers for homes. But it’s also obvious that no beaver has ever seen a computer, much less knows how to use one. So then, what CAN you learn about online business from a beaver?
- A big thing is made from lots of small things: When a beaver wants to build a dam, it cuts down lots of small trees and not just one big, huge tree. They chew them down, strip them, haul them, and pack them until their dams are what they want them to be. In online business, your success will most likely not be because you do one big thing, but because you take your template for small successes and stack it until you get the income you want. A big income made from a lot of small sources of income.
- Don’t be afraid of work: Beavers are furry brown bundles of construction goodness. They don’t mind getting wet, dirty, or chewing on wood if it’ll get them where they want to go. If you want an online business, you’ll have to work, may have to do things you’ve never done before, and certainly will have to learn. Fortunately for you, there’s no wet, dirty, or wood chewing involved, so don’t be afraid of it. It’s all part of the process.
- You can do big things even if you’re small: Occasionally, beavers can build dams so big they become a public nuisance. A public nuisance created by a creature less than a yard long. So remember the beaver when you think you’re too small to do big things. Especially in online businesses where small entrepreneurs on shoestring budgets can build big things if they keep at it.
Although it would probably drag off a computer to put it in its latest construction project if it ever saw one, these furry flat-tailed rodents can certainly teach you a few things about online business. You could do worse than take a few pointers from the beaver.
